A circle age without exit: social media.
Starting the week with a movie worth to mention "The Circle". Not because I consider this film a great movie, but it gives a topic to deal with: Social Media. We all are victims of a new age where key words, images, videos, messages, big data...all kind of media tools and instantaneous information conquer a virtual World: a new universe without limits. Internet is just unmanageable. Share & Like are the main characters of a social community who lives in two mixed worlds: Real and Virtual Life. So the question might be : Where are the boundaries between public and private in a Society where everything is shareable and exposed? Do we need to know everything? Are we capable to decide to be in or out of this parallel reality?..are we just victims of many lobbies around us?...Well, at the end of the day it only depends on ourselves.
From my point of view freedom of expression is not a synonym of transparency. We all need an inner space. Nowadays we are getting used to think less and act more. But a balance between thinking and action is needed, this is because we are rational animals, we struggle to live a life not to survive a life. I think The Circle ( James Ponsoldt ) takes this concept and goes further, as George Orwell did with 1984 talking about the Big Brother. This film based on Dave Eggers novel and starring by Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, Karen Gillan...might go to the limits being a kind of tale, but the plot doesn´t show a reality far away form our current social habits. For example, the majority of people in our Planet has a little camera which shots and shares pics just in a click! who knows if your face is travelling around the World without your consent. Saying like this sounds scary, but ladies and gentlemen it is our true story. Little cameras moving around in our phones, waves of information running through our computers, mobiles...and so on.
"Knowledge is power" as Francis Bacon mentioned lots of years ago, and what Bailey ( Tom Hanks) says "Because knowing is good, but knowing everything is better" (The Circle). Is still the humanity playing to be God?. Adam and Eve risked themselves once, are we going to do the same?.
